Teaching Bollywood Dancing to 5 year old kids

To say the least - its a challange!!! Especially for kids here in NJ who dont necessarily understand the Indian languages and culture. But its a challange I love. Kala Nirmitee Dance School has held several batches for the young stars.
2010 LIL' ANGELS
Each dance workshop is designed to provide kids with a good exercise routine as well as a taste of Indian culture. The workshops prepare our kids to be able to perform in family functions, cultural programs, and talent shows. We work on improving their social skills and confidence by performing in front of an audience.
I have found that the best way to teach dance steps to these young stars is by breaking it into "bite size" pieces. If its not fun, they ain't coming! I break the routine into small steps and give each step a fun name - like "fish step" or "calling step". And ofcourse at the end of each class there is a small snack and a sticker for the fantastic work.
So - I look forward to seeing more stars in the next workshop. Look for information on new batches on my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/kalanirmiteeNJ or email me at kalanirmiteenj@gmail.com. I will try to keep posting more information and articles related to Indian Bollywood dance, folk dance, fusion dance, and classical dance on this blog.
